CS6MX users - do you get this happening?

Post by BritishBeef » Wed Apr 08, 2015 10:23 am

Hi all.
Been using the CS6MX for about 6 months or so now. I don't get to go out very often (about once or twice a month).

I'm concerned about an issue that is happening on an alarmingly frequent basis and I was wondering if my machine has an issue.

I though it was due to different land but it has happened on 3 digs in a row now, each at a different site.

Whilst slowly walking along and swinging the coil, I would get a positive nice sharp dig tone. I stop (as you do) and rescan the area that gave the tone and the tone changes to iron grunt. On my last dig (a rally) this was happening so often (iron infested roman land) that it REALLY slowed me down. I asked a fellow club member who was also using a 6MX if they were experiencing the same and they said they weren't.

I was using Sens 10, discrim 3, iron volume 3, Discrim vol 3 and ground balance auto. I tried reducing sensitivity but it made no difference. I also tried iron and discrim volume on 0 but then the high tone still sounded but instead of signal turning to iron grunt, it just disappeared (iron vol was 0 after all).

I never had this issue untill a couple of months ago.

Another issue which I frequently have is the detector being extremely chattery. Unless I turn the sensitivity down to about 4 it is rarely quiet with loads of little high tone chirps.

Anyone else recognize this?
I'll be gutted to have to send it off to C-Scope as I had to do that with my CS3MX too as that developed a falsing issue too :(

One more thing, on the C-Scope website they show this upgrade:

Image

and it says this: 'Detectors manufactured from November 2013 already have this upgraded upper stem fitted'.

I bought mine 6 months ago and I don't have that kit? I have the normal arm cup without the strap and presumably cannot mount the control box there. I really struggle with arm fatigue with the way mine is.

Could this mean that mine is the old stock with the known chatter issue? I'd be surprised as I bought it from Regton.

I would give cscope a call and explain to them your problems, they are a really
Friendly and customer focused company and will bend over backwards to help you
Out. I do know there were problems with the first batch of coils for the 6cmxi
So yours might be one of the first ones, especially if yours can't mount like the picture.
Have your serial number ready and give them a call.

Well, I'm still getting the chattering falsing issue and on Sunday I was on a club dig and 2 other members have a 6MX. I got one of the members to walk behind me with exactly the same setting and sure enough, my machine was giving me loads of false signals and the guy's behind me was silent.
I checked in with the other memeber who has a CS6 and he said his wasn't falsing or chattering either.

So I think my detector has been faulty from new as it did it then too.

Ruined my day's dig on our favourite site and I'm really disappointed that I have ANOTHER faulty C-Scope (my CS3MX had to go in for repair too :( )

This situation is 'bad press' for Cscope as it refers to not one but two new purchases. To be fair, both Cscope and Nigel at Regton's have a customer service record second to none, so I would give Regton's a call without delay and ask for his opinion regarding the way to proceed. I'm confident you will get the situation resolved to your satisfaction. Hopefully, you'll be a 'happy bunny' as a result. ::g Keep us all informed. Regards sweepstick47

Will do SS ::g

C-Scope are always very good when it comes o customer service I agree. I just wish I had found out sooner that my machine was faulty. I've been at a disadvantage for 8 months. I wondered why I wasn't doing very well compared to everyone else on digs :(

Would have been handy to swap over the coils.

Once you know which part is faulty you only have to post that part back.

Hope its sorted quickly

I was having this issue regardless how far from other 6MX's I was. Also when detecting alone.

I've not got round to sorting out my CS6MX and it's falsing issues as I've been really busy with moving our kitchen down a floor (we live in a town house) and have had no time to do much and certainly no time to detect :(

However, I'm itching to get back out there so I fired off an email to C-Scope to explain that I would be sending my detector in for repair.

I received a reply within 5 minutes and they have decided to just send me a brand new machine and collect my faulty one. Very happy with that :) There's that great C-Scope customer service again ::g

Will be back out there as soon as possible :D

Glad you got your problem sorted out. I once had a very small problem with my cs4pi and the customer service was excellent which is why when i finally obtain some permission I will be buying another detecter from C Scope, probably the cs6mxi the same machine as you are using, good luck with it.

Must agree C Scope customer service is top class.
I bought an mx6 second hand, I had problems with chattering plus I wanted the mod for the control box.
I phoned them and was told to send it to them.
They replaced the head f.o.c. I just had to pay for the mod, (they threw in new batteries for me).
I haven't looked back since. :ml :ml :ml
