the memorial was for John who died 1594. It seems he left only daughters, so perhaps the last of his line. The seal is probably from the 1300s. At 1 3/4 inches diameter that is pretty big for a seal, and the engraving of the name, in French, is very fine, which would suggest a pretty high status man. The use of French died out in the C14, so that also suggests quite early.

I've been in contact with the owners of clippesby hall, and they've put me onto the local church, which was built by a later john clippesby in the 1500s, she's asked for photos, and any info to publish in the local newsletter. She was over the moon, and thanked me many times for contacting her
