Hello from Manchester

Post by Ronin »

Thought best to do a quick intro.

My name is Sean, ive been interested in history for a long time, but mainly study Japanese swords and fittings.

I have a young son that's become interested in arrowheads, so thought I would ask here for help, to avoid buying him fakes or reproductions (get the impression there is a few out there on Ebay etc)

Always interested in learning, and would appreciate any help that comes my way.

Best, Sean

not everything is made in China :D :D

one is real and on is fake can you spot the difference

the label is the give away :D ::g

if museums can't tell https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Edward_Simpson_(forger)

what chance have you.

I have held some stunning arrow heads. The quality of "most" of the forgeries just isn't the same. Even though the are knapped the surface is a smooth curve to the edge. No a flatish piece of flint thats bevelled at edges

Thank you!

Stone arrowheads, I am clueless.

Metal arrowheads, still clueless, but picking things up.

I see many Scythian, Greek, Roman, Viking arrowheads on Ebay. Some are listed as Roman, when they are appear to be medieval and so on.

I see Greek arrowheads on flashy websites listed as genuine with a price of $50, then a very similar example on ebay going for $12.

Some look fake with dodgy patina, tourist pieces maybe, not sure.

I like ones that come out of a field full of mud and dirt lol, seem a bit more authentic.
