Hello all, before you put your money down on this expensive metal detecting machine why not read the instruction manual first ;)

Download the PDF File here .. Minelab E-Trac Instruction Manual

Read the manual!!!

Are you mad?
:))

Even with an E-Trac to work with I still don't understand the manual...The Andy Sabisch book is great though as are the Youtube vids.

To get the best out of the E-Trac you can use a few basic settings..
I use a clear screen with just 3 bottom lines blanked out to stop any iron falsing.
I set sensitivity to auto and +3 which is the top setting until your machine begins to become unstable.
I have my threshold setting at just enough to allow a very faint hum as I don`t want a loud buzz in my ear 24/7 :))
Cheers

I have had the etrac for a couple of months now and I am finding it a bit hard to use, I have used it on a beach finding lots of old military brass cases and a couple of coins, a guy I met there more experienced has found lots of stuff in the same area, being in North Devon I have managed to get permission to detect some good areas but I seem to be getting plenty of nails and scrap pieces of iron even if I have it set on the coins mode, also some areas it keeps showing 35 and going off a lot, yesterday I went on a new permission right next to a large old mansion house and church but turned up nothing apart from nails, and a horse shoe ! am I going wrong somewhere ? I have read the manual several times but it takes some understanding maybe I should try the sabisch book
