Admittedly, my memory is not the best so unsurprisingly, I can't see how a 'Target ID Chart' would be of practical help in the field. :-/ Perhaps it's intended use is simply for the operator to study and then memorise the targets listed, together with their respective numeric values (won't these, change due to innumerous variables)? By adopting this practice, would the operator then be capable of predicting exactly what the 'undug' target is liable to be?

If that's the case, it's possible to see some form of logic in the reasoning but for my style of detecting, logic indicates I should memorise the target responses in audio form rather than using a visual reference which would be so time consuming too)!

So I'm a little 'in the dark' so far as this system is concerned and hope it's not too late to be brought 'up to speed' on the subject. My tongue is firmly in my cheek! Good Luck ::g Regards ss47

Thanks again, from mike.

Hi Mike,
I have found hammered pennies as low as 40 on the id of the at pro so now I dig everything 40 or above with a solid signal.
Hope that helps.
Neil

Hello Neil ::g I'm not an 'AT' user but it's my understanding that operators over a wide range of detector makes and models have experienced finding desirable finds at much lower discrimination settings than the '40' you refer to. :-O

I suggest that one of the accepted weaknesses of metered discrimination, is it's unreliability when the presence of iron or it's derivatives (fe203) are co-located in the detector's search field. In view of this, it may be wise to investigate targets with a lower (30s)? reading than 40.

I'm led to believe, that multi-frequency machines are able to indicate when a non-ferrous target is in close proximity to ferrous thus allowing the operator to make a considered decision whether to dig or not. My GMP has neither meter or multi-frequencies so recognising the audio response is the necessary key. Good Luck ::g Regards ss47
