Garrett ace 250 problem

Post by Vicofdibley » Wed Mar 27, 2019 11:40 am

After some advice, just got a 2nd hand Garrett ace 250 with a relatively newish nel tornado coil, been doing some practice test holes at 4 inches deep with a 20p and a 2p, it only seems to detect maybe 1 in every 6 passes, is this right or should it be a lot better?
Have replaced the batteries with brand new alkaline ones

Those coins likely have steel cores so are being discriminated out. Maybe the discrimination is set too high? Try the test with copper or silver targets. ::g

20p should be okay still cupro nickel as far as I know

did you sweep the area first in all metal mode.

you haven't accidently place the coins near Iron. There's a good chance the 2p is iron and if near the 20p will effect the results.

I have that combo and I would say the same as the others. Best to try it in the field to get to know it. :;@

are you moving the detector slowly over the coins or are you going fast? if fast then slow the swing down, also keep the coil as close to the ground as you can without hitting the ground

Sorry for the delay and thanks for your replies think I might of solved it 🤞 there was a load of debris under the coil cover, cleaned it out and was able to find someones pack lunch buried over a foot in the sand at the weekend 😂
