Advise Please

Post by dkl1965 » Mon Oct 08, 2018 3:01 pm

Hi , I am wondering if anyone could please advise on detecting beaches .I am using a Garrett Ace 250 .Had a go at detecting on Saturday , damp/wet sand . My question is does it affect the true reading of a signal ? because I was getting good signals then when I dug the hole , there wasn’t anything there . Also would it affect reading of a hand held pin-porter ( also a Garrett ) . :)

You will need to turn sensitivity down to about 3 when in the wet sand to stabilise the machine.
Pin pointer should be fine.

The Ace 250 is a good machine and fantasitic value for money IMHO.

However, like many entry level machines its weakness is wet sand due to the mineralisation.

Mine coped well on the dry beach in the South West, and was "OK" but not perfect on the wet sand with the sensitivity turned down as suggested. But I know in some areas, North East for one IF I remember correctly, even then they really struggle on the wet sand.

I agree with Saffron - arguably the best starter machine and comes up trumps in many circumstances, but is not renowned for its success in wet sand (for which it was not designed).

Once you get into the fields you'll have a lot more success. Keep at it and let us see your finds, whatever they are, when they arrive (as they surely will!).
