Hope buying the Garrett carrot will be worth it

Post by Simonwwfc26 » Sun Oct 08, 2017 6:42 am

As a first time newbie I was going to look at buying a cheaper pin pointer as just spent out on my 400i detector and was looking to budget but today I've bit the bullet and bought a brand new carrot I hope it will speed up my finds whilst in the feilds . Is there anything to be aware of at all or just switch it on and dig

Keep the instruction book in your pocket for a while.

When I first got mine, I inadvertently changed the settings without realising it. I still don't know how I managed to do it though. rl;

As with all pin-pointers, make sure that you have a spare battery. My Carrot just sounds off all the time as the battery gets low and there is no prior warning. It went from good to useless almost instantly.

A good piece of kit that has worked well for me, with no faults. ::g

When you turn on your probe make sure that it is clear of metal for the first few seconds otherwise you will detune it! ::g

Keep the instructions as you can switch from vibrate to tones and different sensitivity levels very easily and without meaning to. Once you've worked out how to change settings you shouldn't need it again unless it breaks or you want to sell it.

Great bit of kit! Good choice ::g

Good piece of kit which saves time and effort. I wear builders gloves for detecting and once they have worn a hole in them, usually the thumb, I cut any finger off that has not got a hole and slide this over the end of the probe and tape it down. It saves wear and tear and doesn't cost anything

Carrot is one of the best available pinpointers. But this reminds me that I need to check mine out as from new I feel that it is not quite 100% as it should be. Though I do only use it in silent mode. x;

Ive had I think all the market leaders and the carrot is the best out there! A great piece of detecting kit ::g Always rated the original garretts but they didnt like being abused ie mud/water. But the carrot is the answer. Again had loads and the garrett is the best! ::g ::g

They seem tooooo easy to change functions for my liking. All I want is a pin pointer to detect stuff from about 3 inches away. Vibrate/ sound and that's it. Thinking of going back to the old black one.

If you are getting "too much" signal in the hole, turn it off, and then turn it on with the point in the dirt, this will ground balance it, and cut down the sensitivity so making pinpointing easier ::g

Had one for about a year now and can't complain. Battery life seems very good too - only had to change the battery twice in that time.

Yes it is easy to inadvertently change the settings when you're just trying to switch the thing off, but that's usually because you're too preoccupied with identifying what you've just dug, instead of concentrating on the button press. It only takes a few seconds to re-set it anyway.

If it starts getting too excited for no reason, as Bargeman says, just ground balance it and all will be well. But like any detector, do the ground balance in a 'clean' area with no signals.

The battery will also last much longer if you set it on vibrate only - you really don't need to make all that noise.

I wouldn't be without mine. Always take a spare 9V battery.
