Vallon VMH3CS mine detector

Post by jamie18thmo » Fri May 08, 2015 9:28 pm

Some Royal Engineers let my mate and I have a play around with a couple of these today.
Very nice machines with amazing depth capabilities. I would love to take one out for a proper bit of detecting. Has anyone on here used one?

Yes, it reminded me of the ATX too. Very military-looking.

You should take a look over on the Geotech1.com technical forum. Eric Foster has hacked one for beach use, and a few others have joined him. They seem pleased with the performance, it seems to find small stuff despite not being obviously 'fast' in operation.

The thread is titled "Vallon VMH3CS Mine Detector"
.....forums/showthread.php?23169-Vallon-VMH3CS-Mine-Detector

It's been running for 8 months, there's a fair bit of discussion and technical content in it.

Hi ozzy1977
I got one a few weeks ago for beach detecting ,it's very easy to use just switch it on it takes a couple of seconds to auto ground balance and your off .picks up tiney pieces at good depth .handles wet sand no problem as you would expect for a pi but no discrimination also pin pointing feature works well and a bonus of being waterproof upto 4 meters not that Iv tested . Hope that helps

Bought a Vallon VMH3CS as a back up to my Garrett Seahunter MK11 which i am very pleased with , it will be interesting to do a comparison on the depth achieved by the two machines on wet ionised sand.

Hello ive just bought a vallon too was wondering if anyone used theirs on soil? It was meant for soil after all too look for mines , i know theres no discrimination but the discrim is bad on my ace 250 anyway was hoping if i turned sensitivity down a bit the vallon would be useanle on soil for coin and relic hunting, anyone had theirs on field yet? (Their selling a load on the auction site) vallon might have their own clique soon!)

Probably worth a try but have some paracetamol on hand for the backache at the end of the day! I once owned a CS4PI and that was superb on wet saline beach sand and it found the smallest of items at reasonable depths.

I detected with the CS4PI on a beach that had been an old RAF firing range and the darned machine had me digging for the Olympics! Superb on a clean beach but I would never have used it inland.

Go for it but don't forget to come back and tell us how you got on. ::g

There are two ways for you to get the firmware into your detector:

1) Inspection and firmware implementation at Vallon
INSPECTION METAL DETECTOR EUR 71.30
function test, inspection label, without repair
(any necessary repairs will be invoiced at actuals)
The unit has to be sent to Vallon at your cost and risk; transport back shall also be covered by you.

2) Do-it-yourself after purchase of data-transfer cable:
- CONNECTION CABLE OUT-PC 6p. LENGTH 0.1 m,
Vallon ref. 2509990105 EUR 186.90
- USB TO SERIAL CONVERTER, Vallon ref. 5800001017 EUR 43.20

I opted for option 2 .

You could have a nice wee sideline updating firmware for U.K. Vallon owners. What does the firmware do, remove the beep?

Monkeybaby

The six main advantages of the firmware upgrade are as below.

1. Removal of the confidence click.

2. Automatic channel search mode , forty are available .

3. Six filter modes .

4. Easier soil compensation mode.

5. Surf mode which can be used in conjunction with normal or mineralised switch.

6. Land mode

Ok so does all that come with a bigger display or do you have to work it all out with the
4 buttons allready on there
I mean i am finding curencey and a shed load of rubish but thats what it waz designed for
All the reviews on the vallon all over google are good or bad and still dont know if this metal.detector
Is a good one to use . And all i have done is watch videos and read about all metal detectors and i keep coming back
To this vallon
Its a pi yes and no discrimination other than the discrimination i cant see any other reviews
Saying its not good . Other than finding gold .
I am going on a dig the weekend to oxford somewhere and theres lots gping with lots of heavey artillery metal detector wise . Be nice just to be able to say the vallon did its job and kept up with a top or mid rang detector
Its all so baffling really is . Even though i am happy with it
Just want to know how good it acualy is
Thanks guys
Sorry for being indecisive guys and asking jist no one else seems to know this machine

its has good as the history under your feet , where u search as with any detector, u got to walk over it to find it, if its there to begin with, as is the case with the Vallon ::g
enjoy using it !! ;)

It will alert you to any metal under you coil which on land will be the tiny bits of lead, shotgun caps, nails, bits off tractors etc. It is quite a brave thing to start detecting with a PI machine over a VLF as you don't have discrimination so you will dig a lot more stuff. Not being able to discriminate will mean all signal will sound the same so you have to dig it.

Never worry on rallies what other people are using and if you will be worse than them. Everyone is always learning and you really do need to walk over it and dig it which is the luck of the draw.
