Any suggestions on these two?

Post by LuckyB » Tue Jun 18, 2019 2:40 pm

OK you must be getting sick of me by now! another pair of odd balls, as you can see from the photo both have 2 heavy rings and a slightly reduced base diameter, both are heavily rifled, and both are flat based, one has an average diameter 9.14mm (0.36”) and weighs 9.17grams (142grs) the other has an average diameter 9.34mm (0.37”) and weighs 9.32grams (144grs). The nose profile looks vaguely American civil war but they are from the same beach as my previous finds so I guess late 19th early 20th century. Any further ideas?

They look like they could be a Very early "cap and ball " revolver bullet head.
Something along the lines of this .

I found a load of those a while ago on a North Kent beach but I can't remember exactly what they turned out to be. ::g

Thanks Bors, the .36” American Navy Revolver looks a likely candidate, as I’ve said the beach is near an old navy base so with a stretch of imagination you could see a visiting American ships crew member showing off his vintage pistol to the Brits!
