x35 9 inch x35 11 inch help needed

Post by andy16 »

I'm sure this has been asked before but doing a search throws up all different answers.

I'm going to be buying a deus lite (may upgrade to full later) and wondering which coil would suit my needs better the 11 inch x35 or the 9 inch x35 these are the two options i have as i will be buying second hand, I'm looking for a deus with at least 3yrs warranty left on it so it will more than likely be version 5?.
the areas i detect I've had roman and medieval finds and the fields i have permission on are pasture and ploughed with plenty of iron and some of the fields also been used for more modern (1960's 70's) rubbish tip.

any help would be great and if you have a deus for sale please inbox me.

I havn`t got one now but when I have had one I found the 9" to be sharp and crisper. The 11" was in my opinion not much deeper but of course being 11" it had a bigger footprint for area coverage.
If I had to make the choice of which to buy first, my choice would easily be the 9" .
Bigger coils can have their advantages but on the same token have as many disadvantages. You`ll find working in Iron harder to cope with with the 11" and it will pull in more EMI (electro magnetic Interference) than the 9" as obviously its a bigger antenna.<<<<(remember your detectors after all is a Transmit Receiver )

It’s a personal preference thing. I prefer 11” but just haven’t tried a 9” and might prefer it. If your sites are iron infested then maybe smaller might be better to help with the iron and get better target separation.

Don’t worry about the software it is on. You can upgrade any machine to the latest version if you have a friend with a controller or by going to your local detecting shop ::g

Good luck - hope you find one soon. Just be wary of going down the ebay route unless you are going to pick it up and test it ::g

I went from the 11 inch x 35 to the 9 inch on my orx, I find the signals and sharpness more to my liking and only sacrificing minimal depth.
