Spades

Post by jarrett » Wed Sep 05, 2018 7:32 pm

Went into Toolstation today and they have what they call microshovels either pointed or square for £8.75, and after looking various makes are available from different makers via google and would make a nice piece of kit to carry as long as your not really tall.i use a short non folding ex British army shovel that is made by Spear and Jackson and get on well with it and i am 5'7".
Mods move to correct sum forum if need be.

My main and spare spades are both coincidentally S&J. Though my main spade is a bit weighty I would not want to be without it in this drier ground, it's like a crowbar and I would be very surprised if the sturdy wooden handle ever breaks. It levers out a 12" plug at full spade depth which makes efficient deep recovery. I would never use a micro spade as don't see any need to dig stooped over or on your knees, each to their own of course. :D
