A guide to attaching photos on the forum

Post by Blackadder43 » Thu Feb 15, 2018 9:38 pm

Please note that from August 2019 you no longer need to worry about resizing your photos - the forum will do it for you.

So just crop them (so you just get the image you want) and that’s it. This topic has been edited to reflect these changes.

Please remember though that the 4 photo per day rule still applies. If you want to add more photos than that then please use a hosting site

So, you want to attach a photo using the MDF forum as the host for your photo.

Hi BA, No probs with image dimensions but 300kb, what luxury if only I could? I am quite familiar with image resizing etc but my PC must still be working on old time because 150kb still gets the "file too big", so I have to work to 149kb or less as ever which is no prob but am just curious about the new proclaimed 300kb image size. So not actually noticed any changes at all.
Basically if my image is say 590 X 400 pixels and 150kb I cannot upload it. But 149kb and no probs, so what is this 300kb all about?. :D

Easylife I really have no idea why you are having this issue. I’ve raised it with the other mods and we’ll get back to you tomorrow once we’ve had a look ::g

Thanks OG, It is not an issue for me but just wondered why it seemingly works differently for some?

Interesting. I misread something and have been posting photos reduced to just below 650 pixels wide without any problem. :D

Would be so much more accessible if you could add more than one picture with your iPhone. I’m already on a ‘list of people who don’t follow rules’ because of that! I don’t have a pc and I get excited to get an id. Havnt put anything up since as I don’t want to be banned x;

I had loads of problems trying to send images but Oxgirl recommended the Free Online Picture resizing which is dead simple to follow and although limited to 4no photos , I find this is enough for me .
I am not at all computer savvy as I have no patience for technology , hence my love of switch and go metal detectors !
The free online service is straightforward and easy to follow the basic step by step guide which allows you to crop all images and as long as you use the correct pixel size and custom image , you cant go wrong .
I walk , I dig , I find ....naff all !

Hi
I upload mine from an iPhone
And use an app called image size-
works a treat.
It’s free if you don’t mind the odd advert coming up .

I am trying to attach a photo using my PC and Windows 7 as described but I am not getting the Status column appearing and so when i preview, the photo is absent. Any ideas?
Many thanks

I have alway's uploaded my images to a hosting site (I now use imgur) very quick and easy to upload, edit and resize pictures and just copy the bbcode link into the text box on this site job done. I might be wrong but using this method there seems to be no limit on how many images you can put in a post,

That is absolutely correct, if hosted by an outside source then you can post your whole photo album as it doesn't use any of our resources

Bern can you see some red lettering and wording telling you the image is too big?
if so you need to crop it and then resize it...

Hi Guys, i use an App on Android called " Photo and picture resizer" i resize all the pics i want to upload to "500 x 500". This seems the perfect size, nice and simple and had no problems uploading as above method. thanks

If you only have the phone and no other app then on an iphone (assume Android is similar) to resize a picture just email it to yourself. Before it sends it asks what size you would like the picture to be.
When it arrives back in your email just plonk your finger on the image and it will ask what you want to do with it. Just add it to your photos and it's there ready, already sized, to upload to this site.
