Two brass fore-end protectors have been recovered from my Napoleonic musket range site.
One is in good shape, as shown in the photograph, next to an original musket. The other has been bent by the plough.
Is there a reliable process for straightening a brass artefact please?

Re: Straightening a brass artefact?
Straightening might work but then again it might not.
There isn't any reliable way to straighten brass because the time spent in the ground tends to cause chemical changes such as dezincification. The effect on the original properties of the metal is unpredictable but brass can become very brittle and will crack if you try to work it.

Can I just say that is a cool way to show how your piece would have looked when made and in situ?
