Sussex - Charity Rally 18th August UNDETECTED cut meadow

Post by liamnolan » Wed Jul 24, 2019 2:53 pm

viewtopic.php?f=35&t=87279&p=791067&hil ... ch#p791067
Where has the time gone??
Several MDF members have been badgering me to get another charity rally and so I have been busy behind the scenes in acquiring the right land in the right place at the right time.
This time round we have grass fields of UNDETECTED LAND off the beaten track, surrounded by woods, absolutely beautiful setting. Here is the link to the village of Chailey and from chatting with local historians there has been a lot of activity over the past 3,000 years.
http://www.chaileycommons.org.uk/archae ... al-history
Event Charity - http://www.friendsofhamsey.org/
We will keep the entry fee the same at £12.00 CASH
ALL those detecting will be expected to pay, even if sharing a machine.
Plenty of car parking space on the fields but we have been invited by the Manor owners next door to use their parking space. There will be a yellow roadside sign.
Date - Sunday 18th August 2019.
Starvecrow Farm, South Chailey, Lewes BN8 4AP
Arrival time - no sooner than 9am please. Departure by 6pm.
Start time - 10am briefing and off you go!
Local B&B - Blacksmiths Arms is brilliant, have stayed there myself - http://theblacksmithsarms-offham.co.uk/
Lunchtime - nearest pub & carvery is the Rainbow, smashing place - https://www.revivedinns.co.uk/the-rainbow
Usual rules apply to filling in holes, headphones to be used, declare ALL finds to Finds Tent or other local historians present. You can keep your usual finds but anything over £200 will be 50/50. These fields have no recorded finds and so find spots need to be recorded in the Finds Tent. Should anything of obvious historical importance be discovered, just leave it so as to preserve the context and alert the FLO.
Refreshments and food available morning on arrival, then something at lunchtime, drinks all day. We can cater for veggies and vegans courtesy of my daughter Tamsyn. please order now
Breakfast white baps with either bacon or vegan sausage can be pre-ordered @ £3.00, plus let us know about allergies on arrival.
Chairs, tables - If you have a favourite chair then bring it along, plus we always need some small tables.
Sat evening Camping - Please arrive after 5pm.
NO open fires.
Your finds collection? Bring some pieces along for us to admire and to inspire everyone!
Portaloo will be available.
Pets - allowed but bring poop bags.
Raffle - I will try to scrounge some raffle prizes but if you can bring something along, that will be VERY much appreciated. ::g ::g ::g
We had a brilliant crowd last time and I hope they can manage to come along again ::g
This is a super chance for MDF members to meet up and enjoy a good days detecting in beautiful surroundings.
Thanks, Liam :;@

Sounds like it'll be a great day for you all - uber jealous. Unfortunately, my wife will be recovering from an operation, and will need looking after..... I did suggest palming her off, but she was having none of it...
Well done Liam et al for making this happen ::g

Hi Andi, best wishes to your better half, hope she is soon recovered. ::g
The last event was very enjoyable, plus the area has seen a lot of history. Its three large fields grouped all around us, beautiful scenery, light soil so should be easy to dig. Not far from the Rainbow Pub & Carvery which is a brilliant place ::g But here are other pubs anyway - https://www.google.com/search?q=Chailey ... 78671!5i13
I have not checked out if any do B&B, weather should be good for camping maybe? I will be on site on the Saturday evening to make sure everyone is ok.
For those new to detecting myself and others will be happy to spend a bit of time going through the basics of detecting. I have had a knee replacement that has not gone well, leg will not straighten and so another op looks likely but I am sure I will manage something from a zimmer frame!
Looking forward to meeting you all, Liam :;@

Yes please Liam. Events like this explain why when I renewed my car insurance earlier this week they were surprised at the milage that I did.

For anybody that did not attend the last one (was it really 3 years ago) I can confirm it was a lovely event and very well run.

Also for a good cause, if anybody attending has the chance I suggest that they visit the old church and look around.

Evan

Hi Liam, what sort of land is this on? Pasture or ploughed/cultivated? It is just down the road from me, so please do put me down on the list.

All the best.
God gives all men all earth to love, but since man’s heart is small,
Ordains for each one spot shall prove beloved over all.
Each to his choice, and I rejoice, the lot has fallen to me
In a fair ground—in a fair ground—Yea, Sussex by the sea!
