Weekend Wandering...

Post by Bargeman »

Today I attended my first dig with the Weekend Wanderers on a nice pre detected field down near Alton. And although I never found anything myself (no change there then) I did see, and hear of some nice finds, I saw a nice small hammy, and I heard that a Celtic, and some Roman coinage came up to a lucky few ::g

The field was a good fossil field though, and I found a nice small urchin, trapped in a piece of flint...

And saw some other nice fossils picked up by others too ::g

Being as it was so close to the Watercress line, there was plenty of steam trains to be watched...

All in a nice day out, in typical spring weather, the Weekend Wanderers were very welcoming and friendly, the cost was very reasonable, even for a non member, and a nice touch was the free tea and coffee on offer all day ::g

Love the urchin and the 'pre detected field' idea. Very polite of you! :D

Great urchin... nothing beats a good echinoid... really perks me up when I find one on an otherwise quiet day and I love it when you can still see them as they would have been; protruding from their primordial muddy resting place! Nice one!
