Well Hello There!

Post by Ruffers22 » Tue Jun 11, 2019 6:01 pm

Hi there, from a soon to be detectorist.

I've always had an interest in detecting as a hobby but have only recently decided to act on that interest.

So after months of tinternet research and Youtube vids, I am about ready to pull the trigger on a Equinox 800 as a first metal detector and was hopefully looking for some words of encouragement from some time served detectorists out there that I am doing the right thing, especially being a newbie?

Some other factors that helped me decide detecting was hopefully the new hobby for me, is that I grew up around farms and farmers and the fact that most of my pals are now said farmers and landowners, this would hopefully help me obtain some permissions.

In fact luckily for me one good buddy that has already said I can go over his land, has a marked Roman road running right across one well hidden field that crosses a small river/stream and along the edge of a large wood which according to my pal has never had anyone over it for as long as he can remember :D :D

So with any luck and a lot of practice, I hope to be pulling up some interesting stuff very soon???

The only issue I might have is the said land around this particular farmland has a pheasant shoot over it so I think old cartridge cases may be an issue.

Anyway thank you in advance for any advise & words of encouragement ::g

With that starter pack of promising permission + outstanding detector, I'd say you're on a really good track. Good luck, and show us yer booty soon.

Hello Ruffers and welcome to the wonderful world of high hopes.

My only advice to you would be, don’t fiddle. Get to know the machine, as it is, out of the box first.
It’ll be a long learning curve without following other people’s ideas on what settings to change.

It’s a great machine and can be used ‘out if the box’ quite successfully. I’m sure you’ll soon be posting finds, best of luck.

Don’t be backward in asking for advice though. Plenty of experienced users here will help.
