Hi from Portsmouth, new to the forum.

Post by Chris55bc » Sun Jun 09, 2019 1:21 pm

Hope eveyone's having a great weekend, Myself, I've always had an iinterest in history, as im fast approaching 50 i thought what better way to give myself a worthwhile reason to get more fresh air than to taking up an outdoor hobby, combining my interest in history. I dont know anybody that does Metal detecting and the clubs i've looked at seem to me to be difficult to join. If anybody could let me know the best way to link up with local or what they did it would most appreciated. Regards Chris

Hi Chris,
Welcome to the Forum and hopefully a Hobby you will find enjoyable but also addictive.
Fair bit of Naval History in and around Portsmouth.
Use the blue panel on the left as your go to guide.
Remember there is no such thing as a stupid question, we are all learning all the time and there are some very informative people here who can help with most questions or identifications.
Good luck with your detecting and no doubt we will soon be seeing some of your finds.
Always worth mentioning metal detecting in any conversation, someone may know someone with some land you can go on but remember you always need permission from the landowner.

What ho and welcome to the forum, Chris. Pull up a strap end and make yerself comfy.

There is a Clubs subforum in the blue panel to the left and/or a web search will turn up those clubs local to you. The vast majority seem to have waiting lists and the best thing you can do to bump yourself up it is to see if you can go along as a guest to get a feel for the club and to offer to help out. Get involved.

Or you can be a miserable, antisocial auld wossname like me and sort yourself a permission or two and enjoy them on your own, with only the wildlife, a drinks trolley and several servants for company.

Best of luck and hope you enjoy your time here ::g

Hi Chris
Welcome to the forum. I come from Portsmouth originally and used to do regular visits down there and always took my detector with me. There are an amazing amount of places you can detect down Portsmouth and the surrounding areas. I managed to get one last permission before my Mum moved up with me and it was very, very productive indeed. I will miss going on that again! Good luck with your searching.
