Hi, new to all this, Nigel aged 55, live in orpington Kent, purchased a minelab detector and various accessories, I've searched a few beaches and gardens but wondered if it best to join a club, I'm still learning the kit and would appreciate help to get better, anyone know of any good clubs for beginners near me thanks in advance

Hello Nigel, and a warm welcome aboard the forums
It's certainly a good move joining a club as there are many benefits to membership. It's often the case that clubs may be 'full' with the need to join a 'waiting list'. As you're new to the hobby, I can recommend the following link as it's specifically produced with beginners in mind.
Good Luck and enjoy your time with us on the MDF
