Charging!

Post by Bradlo »

HI Folks ....new to the Simplex but really enjoying it so far.
One question....when I plug it in to charge it turns itself on and chatters away!!! Is this right ? ( At the moment I just charge it up with the volume off!!!! Also should the battery indicator show it is charging ?
Sorry for yet another stupid, basic question!
Cheers
Stuart

Ask the dealer you purchased it from.
It doesn’t sound right, but as a work around have you tried turning it off when you are charging it.

I seem to have sorted it ....by making sure the detector is no where near any material that will affect it ....if the signal is on 0.0 it seems to charge ok !
Thanks for your answers!

No problem here and mine is charged up alongside a radiator.

My only concern is pressing the On/Off.

I seem to have to press it a couple of times and quite hard. ??? "other owners thoughts appreciated".

My test bed results are very promising.

It should make a promising back up machine back-up machine for my excellent XP Deus model that I have used for the last 11 years.

Happy Hunting,

Jerry.

Have charged mine several times since buying it a few months ago and it's never turned itself on. Only the battery indicator comes on when charging using the supplied charger and lead.

Not had any problems charging mine, it did come with an note on the manual with some updates.
Only been used for an hour or two as it was bought as an backup for the Deus. :)

Hi Stuart,

charged it a couple of times and this did not happen. Only lights up the screen for a few seconds, and nothing else.

No issues with charging mine , screen just lights up for a few seconds then once the back light goes out the screen shows battery indicator bar as it charges . Also havent had any issues with the on/off
button with mine , do press and hold quite firmly .

Mine did not have the additional note with it. ::g

Mine purchased in December had the update note stapled to the manual , but as you say if yours is
3 frequency then must be latest one . Maybe check if you have the wireless icon on the screen when set to wireless mode if you want to put your mind at rest .

I suspect they all have this problem as mine is just a few weeks old and I charged it for the first time today. At first it seemed ok, but then it switched itself on randomly! The problem is not the detector though, it’s the charger. Its a pretty shoddy afair with the silly euro adapter on the plug. The whole assembly is loose and seems to make intermittent contact.

The solution...just use a 5v 2A mobile phone charger. No issues at all.

My Simplex worked fine out in the field yesterday.

A lot of machine for the money.

It was stable, but although lightweight a little heavy after 11 years swinging the XP Deus.

There are some very good youtube videos to help folks new to the hobby, as the idiots guide might confuse them.

It should be fine on the beach for my family to use as I prefer real detetcing out in the countryside.

All in all it get my thumbs up.

Happy Hunting,

Jerry.

Or use like I use a "Smart "Power Bank. No problem charging with them as they suss the "required" current out and adjust as necessary as soon as it starts charging.

Some very good observations, advice and recommendations in this thread, so useful to others who may be contemplating purchasing one of these well specified machines.
Why am I not surprised at that! ;) ::g
