"As a detectorist you should be supplying this lot ;)" About 8 minutes in.

Bit of fun - the shop used in the series - happy Christmas and keep posting the rocks - some great pictures.

Next stop -bonkers space rock-or what could pass as anyways.
Two very different sides of the same find.
Forestry ditch locale
Crazy agate with quartz,
I like the little agates on the ‘back’ face in the vesicles.

A few more bits from the weekend wander....
The pink tinted quartz was a bonus...haven’t had a close up look yet
But it looks to be on the surface rather than internal.
Whatever -it’s stunning in the sunlight.
I need to find that seam :-w
Cheers for having a look

Some bangers up a burn today...
No metal detecting time so this is distraction on the way home ::g
I’ve not messed with the colours on any pictures-it was almost too sunny for photos today.
The ghostly white agate is virtually whole-I don’t find many all white banded agates.
Seem to be a lot more common up in around Tayport-found loads when I was a nipper-
Still got some of them somewhere..

Another very handsome agate.
The cheviots harbour some really good red jasper examples
waiting to be found.
Cherry red banding with a bright white outer rind.
Sounds like a good pie recipie ::g

What a great thread! Reminds me of my younger days spent dodging the Watchman in a couple of local quarries looking for fossils and stones. We found loads of stuff...the usual shell fossils and once some very nice plant stem type sections as thick as your arm! All long gone..
Back onto stones...we once found a great big deposit of sulphur...well I think it was..bright yellow and burned with a blue/purple flame!
Agate....what colours does it come in? The reason I ask is many years ago a local church had its hard standing areas re done. The area was covered in lots of cindery rocks which we investigated once the workers left. Amongst it all was loads of rock similar to some pictured on this thread described as agate...but it was mostly various shades of green,almost like melted plastic but definitely rock. The lot was tarmacked!!

Hi Clint-thanks for having a look ::g
One factor with agates is geographical area-whereabouts was the church?
Agates though abundant in some parts of the country
Are totally absent in others.
Green colours do occur in conjunction with agates-the cheviots is full of green rocks
Geoman helped me out there -it’s chlorite that is the green.
I’ve found whole green porous rocks and glassyswirly green through agates as well-
Usually on or around the outer skin of the agate.

Wish you’d grabbed a piece-and some of the giant fossilised plant stems,they sound amazing.
Cheers
Riry ::g

The church is in the Wrexham area,but the crush could have come from anywhere I suppose! I remember the agate being in big fist size lumps,mainly swirly green and possibly some blue?? The fossil may still be lurking at my mams...

Nice bits the inclusions look like hematite and the white blades barite ( baryte) we used to find similar bits to these in West Cumbria around Egremont digging in the old mine tips. They maybe glacial deposits from that area.

Hi,
Thanks ::g it’s a distraction from metal detecting!
I can’t see why you can’t start a fife thread off or put em
Up on this one.
You’ve got world class agates and quartz up there.
Usd to stay with my grannie in brought ferry and walk right out across the tay bridge
Found some crackers on the south side...interesting how they are a lot different to the cheviot ones.
Love to see some... ::g

Here’s a couple of shots of some mental big geodes of smoky quartz
Encased in a thin layer of agate-this stuff is coming straight out the field up from the bedrock
What lies beneath??!
The white flame shaped one is from the same locale.

Totally blessed to have rocks like this nearby meandmyboy,
Problem is they are a ruddy distraction from metal detecting :D
It’s lookjng like this whole field area is a sheet of such rocks,
Would e marvellous to clear a section of top soil and see what’s going on underneath
I bet there’s some absolutely monumental specimens to be had,
Saleable stones would be nice-an equinox would be the result :-w
Cheers mun!
