Unusual urchin saves the day...!

Post by HolzHammer » Sun Dec 02, 2018 6:38 pm

I knew I was due an afternoon like today's.....!
3 1/2 hrs in the drizzle (on a new field which was nice and a bit different) but all I found was cartridge end after cartridge end after cartridge end... not even any lead or rifle shells to break the monotony! And the sounds they made the deceptive little b**gers... almost every pitch out of the 100 using the deus in full tones... must have dug 40 or so...
Anyway, this wee echinoid really saved the day; I have never found this species before in my 40 years or so of keeping my eyes peeled for fossils on farmland.
Thanks for looking and hope you all had a good weekend!
All the B
Alexander

Ooh that is a beautiful little fossil Alex. Bet you couldn’t believe your eyes.
Now you’ve finally found one, you’ll probably find some more, unless you can’t bear going back for more shottie caps :D
Trouble with fossils on fields is that, mostly they’re covered in soil/mud and look like all the others rocks and stones. It’s the shape that catches your eye. Well found.

Thanks Ladybird66, I've been picking belemnites, gryphaea and echinoids out of fields ever since I can remember and used to spend hours in the plough as a child just searching so my eye is quite adjusted to them! Today on really flinty ground I think I subconsciously tuned out of the chatter in my headphones and started scanning for fossils! All the B!
