My few fossil finds
All of these were found in Gloucestershire fields when detecting.
I know the first ones are Gryphea (in this case daddy, mummy and baby!, they are relatively common round here, but don't know about any of the others.
Next summer I would really like to go down to Dorset for some proper hunting!

Middle one, 2nd pic is a cockle. Last pic is prob a chunk out of a shell bed. Multiple shells all settled and stuck together at al crazy angles.
Amazing to think we were under the sea a one time

Re: My few fossil finds
Thanks for the heads up but Dorset is closer and an easier sell to the Mrs for a few days away than the Humber!

Just a heads up that Kimmeridge a very well known fossil spot is actually out of bounds for fossil collecting, took a trip there a few weeks ago and got confronted with a sign stating no metal detecting, no hammers, no fossil hunting

Having walked the beach I can totally understand why as the beach is pretty much a rock floor and it would be a huge shame for people to be allowed to come along and did it up.

Re: My few fossil finds
Thanks, I've got some useful local knowledge as my brother used to live in Worth Matravers - one of the reasons for getting my first detector was finding military badges and buttons in his garden that was part of the old RAF radar station.
The radar memorial at St Aldelms head is well worth a visit, as is the Square and Compass pub in Worth Matravers which has its own small museum
Previous visits have been spent walking and fishing but now I have fossil envy!
