Product development news from Rutus...

Post by tcawood » Thu May 10, 2018 9:04 pm

Some goods news and some not so good from Rutus...

I had heard a couple of rumours recently about wireless headphones for the Rutus and the potential for simultaneous multi-frequency too.

So I decided to just ask them about both via their website ;-)

Wireless headphones - they said yes, a project for the near future and we'll hopefully see the headphones next year.

Simultaneous multi-frequency - in development, works well but not ready yet... and won't be an upgrade to the Alter 71 (such a shame!)

Anyway thought I'd share...

In an update...

A rep from Rutus has since said that they haven't completely ruled out multifrequency on the Alter 71 but it would mean a new circuit board and wouldn't be free.

I'd happily pay a reasonable price to upgrade my A71!

Thank you, I love my Rutus, I would also pay for an upgrade if one became available. ::g

Probably much easier to design a new machine from scratch rather than develop software that you have to market by asking everyone to send their machines in for a new engine. I expect the upgrade to the 71 would be expensive as it's more onerous than running a production line of new units.

I daresay the new machine will have other added benefits also.

Swings and roundabouts Max... a brand new machine would have a significant R&D cost, plus retooling the manufacturing process and that entails.

But if they could add it into the existing Rutus Alter 71 with something as simple as an amended circuit board, then they could use the same base machine add a V2 logo onto it and sell it at a slight premium.

If they could allow existing users to upgrade with a hardware modification then a lot of already loyal customers would be even happier with Rutus!

The R&D won't be much different really, they have the background tech, just working out how to run the simultaneous frequencies. They will probably want to change the control buttons too.

If the housing ends up identical, then I daresay they could offer an upgrade for the 71.

Psychologically though I think it looks better to present people with a new machine rather than suggesting the old one needs sending off for modifying (Makro Red/Makro 2)

How would an upgrade keep it a 71 frequency machine? It would be impossible to process 71 simultaneous would it not?

The latest tech can only do 4.

Well the technology advances all the time, so who know how many simultaneous frequencies could be processed at once?

I'm not sure you'd need all 71 though, just a reasonable selection of them from the bottom to the top end of the frequencies...

But who am I to say, I know Rutus are working on it but as to how this will ultimately play out - well only time will tell.

There is also a new software update due , should have been this month according to the email I had back from them but havn't heard much since, don't know what will be changed / improved but it was confirmed that any machine would need to be returned to the dealer for the upgrade.

Yep, afraid the RA71 needs the dealer to do the upgrade to the software.

anyone know what the upgrade to the software covers, rutus didn't say in the email and no mention of it on their website

I know it now includes slots to save custom user programs rather than have to overwrite the factory ones.
