New Nox... Can't wait to get out.

Post by roodymiller »

Well, I finally done it... Got myself an 800. She's on charge now so might have a quick play for an hour later. Must say though, I'm not impressed with the arm cup. It's loose and won't tighten up properly so I'll have to call at Crawfords tomorrow (luckily I live in Scunthorpe) and see about a replacement.

Otherwise I feel that this is a good machine and can't wait for me and the dog to get stuck in...

If i remember correctly isnt there like a locating hole or lug on the cup fitting?...
If thats not in place then it might not tighten up correctly?
Obviously not trying to teach you how to suck eggs, but might be worth a check
Long time since i set mine up and the brain is rusty today :D

Good luck with the machine though and keep us informed of your finds ::g

I got mine a few days ago and the arm cup would not do up, tiny 4mm screw, tried it different ways and wiggled it about and it went on OK just needs a bit of fiddling with, but you dont expect this in this price range !

It's definitely a poor arm cup assembly. It all slots together in the locating holes but the screw is tight and won't tighten up fully. The plastic screw head is now loose and just spins, so I can't even undo it... I'll just take it back tomorrow.

Got to remember, it’s only £870 for a top top end machine, many 3030/etrac users are switching to the equinox .
If they put the best quality non essential parts on it, it would of been over a grand .

It reads like you’ve bust it being heavy handed and stripped threads :))

The armcup is just one of the many reasons I sold my Nox 800.

I've put some race bike tyre tube over the stem and the cuff over it, seems solid. Then heated the cuff itself to make it narrower - it seems to be designed for someone with Popeye arms x;

You can buy wide self adhesive backed grey or black foam rubber of different density, they use it in the building / construction industry in air con / ventilation ect.

Took the bolt out with a pair of pliers and put a replacement in and all good and solid now...

Anyway had a go on a field near the house that has given me 3 hammies and a few other bits. Tried Fred's settings with 50 tones and couldn't get on with it at all. Found a few bits and pieces but nothing of interest. I'm not to disheartened but feel that it is, gonna take me a few hours to get used to this machine. I've had a few detectors before and felt like this with them all, so not too worried at the minute...

Out again tomorrow for a few hours.... I know it will all come good😉👍

If you find the 50 tones a bit overpowering try dropping to 5 tones until you get used to the Nox, you can then move back up to the 50 tones, ::g

You have a great attitude and will do just fine. :D

Quieting it down is all in the swing speed - very slow compared to most other detectors. Once you find a positive response experiment with it to see how slow you need to swing to reduce the noise. Get that right and the unmissable good targets will stand out from the iron and it will all all start to make sense. Hopefully your fields should then come alive again and you will gradually be able to pick out and interpret the less obvious signals.

I wouldn't advise experimenting with the settings too much until you are confident with the machine, which will probably take several trips.

Best of luck. ::g

I also had a problem with the arm cup, it fell off a couple of times.
Having had it since November and still got the deus lite, I don't use the deus anymore.
The finds I've had in amongst the iron has proved to me that Its worth persevering with.
Keep practicing and it will be worth the effort.

Had a good 3 hrs and found plenty but no coins unfortunately. Not too bothered though because I found a good array of stuff. Found lots of bits of lead and bits of copper that I threw away. Slowly got better at deciding what was liable as being a decent target as the day went on and dug the large button at a full pinpointer depth with a banging signal so we'll happy...

Plenty of buttons at various depths, a thimble and a buckle? type thingy 😂

Plus... Hardly dug any iron

Anyone knows what this thingy is in the middle, S shaped, with the hole in it? One end is sharp, another is blunt, lever like.

I've got one too! ):=

You wait till the stem starts wobbling and fork out £££ for the carbon stem
To get rid of it.

I am sure that it is not a stair rod fixer at all but, even if it is, I know at least one other more agricultural use that they had.

They turn up in quantity absolutely everywhere and nobody has yet explained why that should be the case with stair rod fixings. Especially given that most people didn't even have carpets on the stairs until late Victorian times or even afterwards.

I got shouted down last time so I'm no going to rekindle that particular argument. :D
