Mod to Equinox control pad buttons.

Post by Badger1935 » Fri Nov 08, 2019 10:22 am

I have made this small Mod to the control pad buttons by sticking on the pad over the buttons furniture transparent pads which are domed. It makes the buttons much easier to locate and press when wearing gloves. The pads are easily removed if needed. The pads are readily available at any d.i.y.shop for very little.

We’ve been doing that for the deus for years but XP have cautioned against doing it because it can lead to too much pressure on the buttons and eventually the panel can fail prematurely . Personally, using them for 3 years, I’ve not experienced that but just take it easy when you push the buttons ::g

If you are using a case it really does help, especially if you are wearing gloves ::g

I have one on my pinpoint button, so I can locate it by tactile means, my old Fisher F2 has had a similar mod for 9 years.
I think it's best if the buttons are thin, so they flex in a similar way to the metal click switch 'mechanism'.

I had not realised that people had used this mod for so long.It was given to me by a detecting mate just a short while ago and I thought it was worth showing.

Hello Badger, ::g Excellent photo's by the way ::g Tips such as yours are never 'not worth showing' because we have newcomers to the hobby and the Forum on a daily basis. Personally, I would encourage anyone with what they feel is a good 'tip' to post it on the Forums without a second thought. ::g

You can of course, search the relevant forum to see if anything similar has been posted and if so, it may be time to reintroduce it as a timely 'heads up'. ::g Regards ss47
