Nox 800 Screen

Post by devonlad » Mon Sep 02, 2019 8:02 pm

Was out with the nox today, all fine for 4-5 hrs of searching. Then I noticed the screen started to fade until there was only a blank screen?
The machine was still producing sounds, but no display at all.
The screen has not been knocked or damaged, has anyone experienced anything like this, or can suggest remedy.
The machine has not been used a lot, maybe a handful of outings..

Was there any rain and did you have the cover on?
Its possible with the heat we still have and some areas having rain that some condensation was affecting the elctronics and screen
The other remote possibilty is your battery life was right down, maybe the screen is the first thing to show a dead battery?

I have heard of this happening with LED screens in excessive heat and my tablet recently did the same when I left it outside. Did it sort itself out when it cooled down? :-/

Sounds like a warranty return, then. No detector should struggle in the very modest heat of the UK at this time of year.

Thats disappointing to hear and I hope you're back out detecting very soon.

I've been out detecting when it's been quite hot, low to mid 20s I think and haven't experienced this problem yet (fingers crossed).

I wouldn't be out in that, even if I was sat by a pool with free beer on offer. (He said after delivering mail in the high 30s not so long ago). :D

Hi Devonlad, I had exactly the same issue with my original nox 800 about a year ago. Only detected for around 12 hours in total and in average temperatures. Screen faded then went completely blank, but still made sounds.

Contacted dealer who was very helpful and replaced the control box. No issues since.

Cheers

Simon

Glad to hear that...Out of curiosity, how old is the Nox? Sounds like ML might have had a bad batch of Control units???

Might be useful to keep a note of the serial number of the faulty unit to compare with any others that come up on here...
