MDF Server Upgrade

Post by mrix » Thu Feb 15, 2018 5:34 pm

Hello all, the MDF May have some downtime over the next few days as we are upgrading to a much faster server with far more hard drive space, it also allows much faster connections so the MDF should loads very fast for everyone ::g B-)
If you notice any down time and cannot connect its likely because of the migration.
Thanks all
mrix

Hello all, the MDF is very close to being moved over to the New server, basically everything gets moved and then ip addresses are changed over, unfortunately the downside is that some recent posts made during this migration could possibly disappear, there is basically a delay between the old server and the New, the files and the data get moved over first but the ip addresses stay the same possibly for many hours until they propagate across the net so there is a small window of a few hours where data is still getting transmitted to the old server and does not get updated on the New server when the ip finally changes over.

Hi mrix you say you are "upgrading to a much faster server with far more hard drive space". Having worked in IT for many years here is a tip that will avoid the need for the extra space.

......

......

Just delete all posts about the Equinox until it has actually arrived and we can see genuine reviews about it rather than all the posts saying what it allegedly can / can not do and about the delays in it actually arriving. :)) :))

Good luck with the upgrade.

thanks for overseeing the site, unfortunately i had a blank weekend so had nothing to post!!!
didn't think members wanted to see a few buttons and pieces of lead and a pocket full of303 bullets. So for me the down time of the site was at a good time.

Anybody else not seeing images? All I am seeing, image wise, on 2 iPads and a MacBook Pro is the image title, clicking on it does nothing.

Yes and no!.

Old post are fine, as are any made today.

However, I have seen a few made yesterday and the day before (18th 19th) where the attachments are not there eg viewtopic.php?f=10&t=98611

mrix did warn us that some post might be lost during the move between servers if they were made on the old server during the transfer process and I suspect that it somehow relates to this.

Evan

Edit: Same issue with all the posts from 18th / 19th that I have seen.
Todays seem all fine.

Ah! Sorry all, I should have been a little more specific. Posts made today do have visible images, those images before the upgrade (that I’ve looked at) are missing. As you say Saffon we were warned there would be some disruption, more a case of me needing to RTFM a little more closely.

Hello all.. this type of server migration with ip change can be a real headache!
I am actually texting from my phone as I cannot access the forum from the PC... basically I am with Virgin media who can be very slow updating the DNS ip cache...can take up to three days.
But as the days move on we shall see less and less problems....... hopefully ::g
Thanks

I've been unable to access the forum for a few days, I immediately get a browser message
"the connection was reset"
Should the site behave as before, or are there software changes to accompany the server move?

(I'm currently in my local library, where it seems accessible)

Update: I've cleared cookies / browser history, and things have changed. I now have what looks like a security-related problem ( the S in https ). It appears the site cetificate is 'incorrect' , in that it applies to the old site not the new one. This may be a red herring, though. I can still connect to the old site:
http://109.75.171.100
but the new site throws up some incomprehensible cypher message. I would assume they used the same security settings, maybe not?

Had a few access issues but now working on all my platforms, messages were unsecured server?

I can post an attachment but nothing from an image hosting site, I am using Imgur, tested with a photo previously used

This is the information i get when trying to use a hosted image

It was not possible to determine the dimensions of the image. Please verify that the URL you entered is correct.

Images previously posted on much earlier posts from Imgur are showing OK

Old posts seem fine as do new one.
Problem seems to be with posts made on 18th /19th during the migration.
mrix is aware.

This sounds like a cookie / cache problem with your browser, and your trying to connect to the old server
Your browser should have an option to remove cache and cookies, if you do this it will probably solve the problem (always worth doing every now and again as they often contain various unwanted bits).
