Display case project

Post by Stillburning » Sun Mar 27, 2016 3:46 pm

After seeing a post by Slashter last summer http://www.metaldetectingforum.co.uk/vi ... 21&t=79641 I have been thinking about making a similar display (well almost a complete copy!) I have also looked through the threads on here and have now finished the project.

The display case is an Ikea "Detolf" unit with a set of 4 "Dioder" LED lights so each shelf has some illumination, I also bought a 5m roll of self adhesive green baize, some canvas stretch frames and Lindner floating frames.

I have used a hot glue gun to mount the items on the frames, the large Lindner frame does not hold thin/heavy items very well apart from at the edges.

I am pleased with how it turned out, and it will be very easy to add items as they are found or returned from the FLO.

Most of the finds are from detecting although a few of the milled silver in the third picture I have had for years and the beads in the second photo are from Beady Pool on St Agnes on the Isles of Scilly where I used to go camping.

This is the bottom shelf that has a mixture of detecting finds, family items, and pieces I have collected. To mount the badges on the stretch canvas frame I cut some holes with a scalpel to push the lugs through and secured with the original pins if present or match sticks.

for anyone else wanting to do similar, I was having trouble locating the green stuff, popped into LIDL for shopping and got a roll of imitation grass (short) 2mx1m £4.99 reckon it'll look ideal,

The green stuff I used was off a well known auction site listed under self adhesive felt baize fabric mini roll, but at £25.99 for a 5m x 45cm roll the artificial grass is cheaper - looking forward to seeing some photos of your project ::g

That looks great, well done, has given me lots of ideas! By the way...those pieces of pottery, are they roman? only I found a lot in a field and they look identical.

Very envious of your collection and beautifully displayed, only just started this lark myself but am starting to get a nice millitaria collection together. Thanks for sharing.
