Frameless display now ready for the landowner

Post by frogeye » Tue Dec 17, 2013 9:25 pm

I have now finished a display ready to give to a land owner at one of my permissions . It took a lot longer than I thought it would , but Im happy with the results ::g ::g

It was all scratch built from materials and will be a wall hung frameless display .

I bumped into the land owner a few months ago and he asked me what I did with my finds , did I sell them he asked . He offered to buy a small collection from his land , my reply was that he is very welcome to have a collection. Over the months I have been thinking what I could put in a display and have been putting a few finds to one side for him.

I hope he likes the display , will have to email him soon and take it to him ::g

Yes some of my best and most interesting finds are in the display. I enjoyed finding them and keeping them for a while ::g and now they will be kept as a group which is good [:)

One or two of the buttons are farming related a Rotheram plough button from the early 1700s for example , one of my top finds .

The backing is made from 25mm deep polystyrene , lay the finds out then draw around them .
Using a hot cutting tip ( outside the house ) melt a space larger than the find , about twice as deep to allow for felt , don't worry if its to deep just pack it out with spare felt. With a bit of work make all the finds sit flush with the clear front ::g OooO

Great work. Thanks for sharing.
Acrylic can be tricky to drill and cut out, so well done ::g . Do you have Plywood and styroform in the sandwich...

Had to use a pilot drill to start with on the Acrylic front and a hand counter sinking tool to make the screws flush .

The felt is folded over at the back then taped in position . The sandwich is finished off with thick card . Which was the outer packing from some Lindner coin trays a nice dark blue colour . This card was glued in position a bit tricky :P . The felt corners were trimmed and red cotton was used to finish them OooO =D>

Thanks for all your comments chaps ::g ::g ::g

Thanks.. Dont you have something hard on side towards the wall.. Like plywood For mounting on the wall and the screws from front to be fixed in. Not much resistance in styroform.. :-/
Guess we need a detail drawing B-)

Yes I put a narrow strip of wood 10 x 25 x 330 mm across the top where the top two bolts go through and screwed a frame wall hanger to that in the centre .

large penny washers on the other four bolts ( no real penny's were harmed ) with the card backing gluded on it makes it fairly strong . ::g ::g

I notice that this post has appeared on the ANTI DETECTECTING TROLL SITE . It now seems that even making a display like this and giving my best finds to the farmer is still not good enough for the TROLL :)) =))
