Whites Surf PI / Pulse Diver 950

Post by janner53 »

Evening all.
Can anyone roughly tell me how old this machine is. Picked it up recently and after doing a bit of googling I think its a model out before the Whites Surfmaster Duel Field and the Whites Surfmaster Pro. Not even sure what it is really called, as on the control box it says Whites Surf PI, and on the coil it says Pulse Diver 950. It has two control knobs, Pulse Delay and Tuner.

I was trying to find a operation manual for it and to find out if anyone is still using one.
Any help greatly appreciated ::g .

Remember doing some detecting with a man over twenty years ago he had second hand one of those so it could be from the 90s he traded in his Tesoro Laser B3 towards getting it at the time.

If I remember rightly they done two versions of that machine, fitted with that coil it wax better used in water as it had neutral buoyancy, myself I didn't like the coil as it makes the machine front heavy if used mainly on the dry beach.

Thanks for the info all ::g .
Tis a bit old then. I was hoping it would be a bit of improvement on my C-Scope cs4pi, but I think I have made a boo boo. Paid £200 for it but came with a good sand scoop and finds bag included.

Thanks for that link to the Whites manuals, will have a good look for this model later.

the majority of pulse detectors preform identical.

you would have to go up a league for one with a ground balance and faster delay to see any difference. But even then is only an advantage for prospecting sub gram targets. Beach detecting coins not so much

I think you have a bargain there Janner ::g It looks in a great condition. I have an earlier incarnation of that detector that is about 25 years old and still going strong. Mine has the yellow labeled control box and black coil with blue labeled as Surfmaster Pulse. Mine is in a very battered state so you have done OK with that one. Mine was £499 pounds new

As already said the coil on yours was negative buoyancy mainly aimed at divers as the label suggests. It is still a great machine on wet sand, only 2 controls and if you set them to the arrows shown you will not go far wrong. It should be better than your cs4pi as it is sand and waterproof, just check the rubber gasket is not damaged and the seating's are clean.

The Surfmaster Pi Pro which came after yours is regarded as the best one of the series but they are as rare as hens teeth, the Dual Field was not liked by many who had used the earlier models.

Thanks again for all your input. You have made me feel better about my purchase. Will be out on the sands very soon and see how it performs ::g .

I have 2 of these, surfmaster pulse pi, the coil is the negative buoyancy for using in water, the normal coil floats.
I think there up there still as one of the best beach, underwater detectors ever produced.
simple to use, no none sense.
I love these, iv used in spain, and uk.
