Constant chattering deus lite issue

Post by jondurandsilver »

Hi folks.
Has anyone else had a problem with constant chattering which makes the detecting pretty much impossible.
After 15 minutes of usual detecting on usual settings it starting making a right racket.
I've tried changing programmes/settings etc but it overides everything. I've also tried turning it off and on a few times but no difference. Last night I left it chattering all night so as to run it out of power and then hopefully it will reboot itself. The coil has run out of power so i'll probably charge it and try and run the headpiece out of charge and see if that works.
I had this problem about a year ago but it only lasted a couple of hours.
The machine is about 5 years old and although the shaft has seen better days, the coil is in great shape.
It has not been upgraded from new so is still on 3.2 I think.
Also I lost programmes between 11 and 18 which are usually your own saved ones.
Luckily I have a new nox to use but the deus is so light and I am so familiar with it that I'm finding it hard to move over.
Any help or advice would be most welcome.

There have been other posts on this - e.g.
viewtopic.php?f=239&t=113090&p=1003820& ... r#p1003820

Might be worth a factory reset / software upgrade in the first instance.

Don't run the lipos flat don't like it. If they go beyond a certain limit they won't charge.
I have lots of them for use in model gliders and when they have been over discharged the only way to possibly resurrect them is to charge as a nimh for a few minutes then go to a balance charge.
If it doesn't charge after that it's toast.
I would fully charge both units then delete the coil then re pair it to the headphones.
An update could also help.

Thanks for your replies.
I was under the impression if you run your batteries flat then it is a good thing as then it takes a full charge.
I'll post updates on what happens.

I know that Jon’s mentioned that he is only only Deus lite but he has no access to a controller for factory resets.

Ps have you taken the coil cover off and cleaned out the little bit of lead that’s stuck in there.?
Taken your steel toe caps off?

Dont know if you saw my post in the other thread but I had the same problem a while back. It turned out to be a small hairline crack in the coil. I returned it an got it fixed under warranty. Took about 2 weeks.

Update on deus lite chattering issue:
I phoned Regton today and the helpful man helped me through the testing over the phone.
I put it into program 2 and gave it a swing over the garden, the chattering stopped whilst swinging and picked up the usual targets.
Then program 5 and it stopped chattering whilst swinging.
He then told me a lot of detectors are picking up EMI lately and there was nothing wrong with the unit.
Also I might have to put up with a little bit of noise for a while.
Also he mentioned you shouldn't be noise cancelling with the nox as it's knocks out a couple of frequencies which could otherwise mean missing targets.

Yep definitely noise cancelling, which I found odd as most people say it's important to do every time.

It’s a Deus issue, but he has Deus and Nox. (Greedy😀)
