Coil battery issue/calibration led

Post by andyblue1974 » Fri Jun 07, 2019 7:07 pm

Hi there,I have the x35 11" coil, went out today for approximately 4 hours, noticed the coil had discharged half way, while the control box and headphones were full charge,they were all charged the night previous the same time,also noticed there didn't seem to be 20 flashes of the coil led calibration on start up.the coil is only 2 months old.. thanks ahead for your replys..

Are you sure you had the charging clip on properly when you last charged it? It’s easy to do - I did it once before going on a dig - very embarrassing rl;

Hi the x35 coil does not flash like the black coil on start up and it easily missed, agree though if the charge is not lasting i would charge it up again and see what happens.

Hi thanks for your replys,yes definitely the clip on properly,the light is solid when attached,that makes sense about the x35 coil led,it does two sets of 3 blinks for calibration, the old coil flashed quickly 20 times, obviously new coil, different technology, just unusual about the power drain, I did use the boost function,but I have in the past and it hasn't drained this fast..

I do charge my coil as follows;
Charging till the light is blinking, disconnect than again charging 2x.
Than the coil is fully charged.

I too notice that sometimes I can squeeze a little more current into my coils if I disconnect both remote and headphones when full charge is indicated. So by leaving the coil connected the LED will sometimes light on steady again.
I only have the basic black 9" and 11" coils but maybe this applies also to the HF coils. I vigorously rub my licked thumb over the coil contacts just before connection. I also always put something under the coil to prevent the clip connector fouling the floor beneath. I used to even find with my earlier coil connector that the slightest vibration nearby (eg dog walking close to charging coil) could result in good connection being lost.

Just to mention the green one is in the MDF shop - https://www.metaldetectingauction.com/s ... rging+clip

I've found it more reliable - like Oxgirl I've turned up to a dig once or twice with what I thought was a charged coil rl;

I also agree with Chilgrove's comments - charge all three together but when the phones & controller are full, leave the coil on charge for a bit longer. If you turn off the power then turn it back on again, it's surprising how often the coil light comes on solid again.
