Small Hammered Coins Coming in As Ferrous on 705

Was detecting on one of my permissions in pasture using 705 10.5" 7.5khz DD Coil using prog 4 and someone else on the land turned up with his deus showing me his hammered coins as we where chatting about it and i said iv never seen a hammered coin before and told me to dig a hole to test what it came up as on my machine and to my horror it came in as -6 at about 5" down have i been missing hammered or was it only this type of coin?

Did you check the area before you dug the hole for any iron, if not could be iron masking the coin or could be the coin was at the limit of the depth at which it could be positively identified, in which case it would come up as iron.
Shouldn't worry about not finding hammies with 705, my mate found plenty with his.

Only found the one hammy but it came in at about 8,10, 12 on my 705 and pretty sure that is a correct reading, unfortunately same as foil :E Like has been said maybe some iron content in the area.

The sound and signal from a target will depend on all sorts of factors. These include the size, depth, composition and orientation of the target, soil conditions plus the ground balance, the swing speed and the sensitivity setting to name just a few.

I have been experimenting recently and am truly appalled by what I have previously been ignoring just because it sounds like iron. :D

Yes defo no iron around but he said the coin was debased low content silver. in the air it came in at constant 12 but in the ground -6.

So in other words should just dig everything until i get used too strong iron signals ::g

Iv bought a battered hammy on the net for testing gonna dig a few holes in garden =))
