705 shutting down!

Post by Batman » Sat Sep 05, 2015 6:17 pm

Hey folks, was out this morning with my 705, not been out for a while so popped some brand new batteries in and off i went. An hour and a half in after all being fine my detector shut down on me, would not switch on again!! Took the batteries out, put them back in and it was fine. Spent another two hours or so with no problems, couldn't weigh it up really.Bad connection on the batteries maybe?? Has anyone any thoughts, thanks for your help.

I dont own a 705 but if it was working all fine and dandy prior to the lay up and the only thing that has changed since was you changing the batteries for new ones it could well have been one of them was not put in exactly right due to the excitement of going out detecting :)) and may have dislodged again while out,but taking them out and reinstalling them again could well have put them back in right.

Just a thought, its happened to me as well,we all do it when we are in a hurry to get out detecting, either that or your mate 'Robin' has been fiddling with the detector again =))

I would suggest cleaning all surfaces of both the battery's terminals and the machine's contacts with a pencil eraser.
Another thing to inspect is whether the contacts in the unit are crushed down to where a positive connection might be sketchy.
If you slow down, you'll achieve a more harmonious outcome.

Then, as Longhair suggests, try cleaning the contacts.

Good luck,

Sometimes the contacts can be damaged in the xterras by letting the batteries drop down too hard.

I always put them in horizontally so they dont bash the contacts.

I had a 705 that was doing this, took it into joan allen and was told there is a fault that can develop causing this problem. They repaired and promptly retured it, but I was also told to avoid using Duracell batteries as they can cause a problems, since then I always used Energiser batteries and had no further problems with it.
