Largest 4th Century Roman Hoard in Britain

Post by 41 Craig P » Thu May 09, 2019 1:20 pm

After two years of keeping it under my hat (not literally) I can reveal two years ago myself and fellow MDF member Rob found a hoard of 3000+ roman coins.

It was a memorable day I’ll never forget.

Absolutely brilliant, well done!

Any details on the coins themselves - were they all the same kind or a mix?

Also, how does it feel to be officially described as "plucky"?!

And I love the line "the pair started digging after their metal detectors began making noises" - good thing you didn't wait until they stopped making noises! =))

Thanks for sharing!

I,m just along the road outside Grimsby ,hopefully there is more to be found in Lincolnshire.

Once again Wow!! what a find well done to you both.

Cheers Cris.

What a fantastic find - incentive for us all. I also appreciate your use of the word 'flabbergasted', a word that's underused in my opinion ::g ::g ::g

Cannot even begin to imagine how you must have felt as that pot appeared, must have been an event of a life-time. Well done for finding it - it makes a great statement as to the current value of detectorists in the search for our history.
Hats off to you both
