Christchurch Beach - Bronze Axe

Post by Fingers Malone »

Took the Grand Children on a trip today to Christchurch
spent a couple of hours on the beach, Nice beach but have never seen so many dog walkers,

Found a palstave Axe, large washer, and old pound coin, and now have two very keen Children to become detectorists, :D

She has to take it to school Monday to show them and of course she has to make her Treasure Box now to keep all her finds in, made me chuckle as they did not want to go home for a change :)) I will get it back monday and do pictures but yes not a bad one, I kept our searches to where the water flows back into the sea as it looked like all the sand had washed away so a bit deeper ::g .

Absolutely brilliant. She’ll never forget that. I can see her signing up here in a few years time.

At the very worst she’ll turn out like me. An avid collector of junk :D

If she takes it to school on Monday, make sure the teachers don’t confiscate such a dangerous ‘weapon’ from her.

Yes that’s a serious consideration. Do you think it might be a good idea to write a description and age on a card for her to take to school with her.
Chances are there won’t be anyone there who would recognise what it is.

That truly is a amazing find from any Christchurch beach :-O obviously must of been washed up in a recent storm if its to be genuine and not some kind of reproduction, as others have mentioned close ups of the axe would be great ::g B-)
Well done

A very nice find indeed! ::g From here it looks as if the 'Palstave' could actually be a 'socketed' axe.
Need a 'cropped' close-up me thinks ::g Regards ss47.

.......not a 'socketed axe', just had a closer look ::g ss47
A disservice is no service at all.

It's a palstave alright and doesn't look as though it has been in salt water long. I thought only staters came off beaches in that area! :D

Nice find ::g
Was in 8 inches, beach was washed of sand, when found i was worried as to it being sharp but thankfully it is blunted, worried as first time for the kids and even though that had gloves on you never know, It does seem to have good age and a fantastic greenish patina, might pop round and get it tomorrow to get some close ups, will be looking forward to seeing what is said,

That is in unbelievably good condition. It must have washed out of a cliff very recently to be the clean from the salt. I would look nearer where the land meets the sea, there may be more🤞

Thanks your Son for doing that Tony.
Unbelievable, beautiful, amazing. What more can I say. I also wondered if it had come out of a cliff fall recently and just washed along the coast.

Proof, once again, how the tides take things and move them.

Are you going to report it to PAS ?

I hate myself for the feelings I have sometimes but it looks strangely clean to me. I do hope I’m wrong. I do hope it is real BA and someone has planted it there recently to fool someone.
If it’s genuine it’s possibly the best I’ve ever seen and really well done.
Ps this is getting my February find of the month vote so far.

I reckon that has come off of the land recently and then been sandblasted on the beach by storms. :D
