Let it rain!-field walking fever-more knapped chert washed clean

Post by Lowland »

Stole an hour this morning hoping to find some more knapped chert in the same area and wasn’t disappointed.
Finding upwards of fifty definites-mostly spent cores and debitage with a few gems and some flint pieces :D
Here’s what it looks like in the field ::g

Great. ::g I spent over 3 hours on the beach this morning for about 3 quid, a silver chain and a pile of bullets and shrapnel. Lots of skeins of geese about.

Rory, the stars are aligning for you to find that hoard soon. You have done more discovery of history in your local area than anyone. Fair play to you ::g

An heavy downpour of rain is great for revealing finds, i used to walk the Victorian dumps after a good shower of rain, it's amazing the things you find that have been thrown out of the hole on the shovel that were missed by the digger.

I had the embarrassing situation of getting bogged last week, the car was covered is splatters it took an hour the next day water jetting it off. Luckily the farmer had left some carpet underlay on a bonfire pile a few strips under the wheels and i was out. rl; rl; I 've had enough mud for the year.. :(

All i found was 2 modern teasers, 5p, and a 10p. lots of lead fragments .Tons of green waste rubbish.
The best find was a pot shard and some burnt masonry, the roman buildings are about 5oo yds away but i'm thinking the archihollogists missed the mark. Still a few hours wandering up and down a field really gives the spirits a lift.. ::g

A Couple of hours in the bracing breeze and the chance of a find or two is hard to beat,
That’s an Interesting chunk of pottery, cool to see the rope impressions in the clay.
I’ve yet to be in a green waste field, but did detect a flood plain that was loaded with Shredded mince from floods washing all sorts into the field ::g
