Hem weight manufacture

Post by Saki » Mon Jan 13, 2020 2:54 pm

Very quite day yesterday. Think my finds-mojo is gone.
Found lots of Victorian and George Pennys, half pennys A little knee buckle which sadly snapped while trying to clean it. Very little else.
Did find this though. Think its an unfinished "hem weight" or lead button.
Just thought it was interesting.
Stay safe in this crazy weather folks. ::g

Why waste a farthing to buy a dozen when you can make them nearly as good for nothing! :D

That's an unusual design for a curtain weight. It's just been suggested to me, (by a dressmaker) that 'shaped' weights were sometimes sewn into the corners of the hem of ladies coats to ensure they hung correctly at both front and back. The modern day equivalent for weighting curtains (not clothing) is now a beaded rope (tape) which is simply threaded through the turned-up hem.

Right, I'd better get on with my embroidery and needle point 8-| :D Regards ss47
