H.M.S. OMG!

Post by Muddyknee » Sat May 25, 2019 8:13 pm

Gonna be hard to clean.
Lifted today in the grounds of an old manor house, looks like a brooch, though very elaborate.
Made of silver, must've taken an age to construct.
Rigging's taken a bit of a knock, but the whole piece seems pretty complete.
How in hell am I supposed to clean it........

Looks like The Black Pearl from pirates of the Caribbean :D

It could look stunning. Silver dip might have been a good bet but you’d need a lot of it. Best of luck with it.

Hi, It looks as if it is silver, if so you've got your work cut-out finding the hallmark.
It's a very nice find indeed and will need some very delicate handling Let us know if a hallmark is found. I'm already hoping it will be Chester and Charles Horner. Good Luck. ::g Regards ss47

On a sea of jelly beans. Something noticeably absent in these here parts.

If you need to clean it, Muddy, a dollop of voltage might be in order, as already mentioned.

I love this item a real cracker of a find.

Also a fantastic ID by Oxgirl

Currently one moored in the bay that we do not mention, and that one is £100 more.

Any lingustic experts out there?
Oxgirl called it "Victorian" ...... and by date it is.

Any thing called Victorian I assume to be in the reign of Queen Victoria, AND to be either British or relate to one of the colonies she ruled over.

BUT its dutch.
So should we call it "Victorian" or "Wilhelminan" (after the queen of the Netherlands at the time). :-/

Not to my knowledge, though a lot of the well to do of the era would've had naval,or at least nautical, connections.

Hi Muddyknee, Have you established it's use in life? It's certainly intriguing ::g
It reminds me of the style of 'TV Lamps' produced in the 1950s. It was common belief that the brightness of a TV screen would be negated by the placing of such a lamp on top of the telly!

TV Galleon Lamps
