Musket ball with central ring

Post by Gspook » Thu May 18, 2017 5:44 pm

Dear all I would appreciate some help with ID / approx date of a musket ball. It is the first one I have found with a central raised ring around it. From searching I have found it may be from a double groove musket??

Size: Approx. 15 mm diameter.
Material: lead
Soil: soft woodland
Find depth: 40 cm
Detection : solid ping ID as 1 dollar coin on display.
Autotrak on, disc. Setting 2, sens. 90%
Detector: whites M6

Many thanks

On a mobile at the moment. Do a google for banded musket ball. Designed for a rifled bore. I will post a link when I get home.

I would guess after you had fired a few round there would be a build up of lead in the grooves which would be hard to clear.
