Some very poor ID requests in this evening, lets make a big effort to get the pics of a good quality, a good scale or modern coin comparison and some machine details if possible, takes just an extra 20 secs to get it all together. I have had to request some topics to be resubmitted, so please read the sticky topics that are there in many sections to help members do a good topic, Liam ::g

One tip I have is to take a pic of the object in your hand ... particularily if its not a coin... so you instantly get a view of scale ... and do it outside ... its surprisng what good quality pics you can get with this approach.

Afraid not, would be ideal! Its always a fine line between encouraging members to add that little bit more quality info and at the same time recognising that when we rush to make an ID request after finding a super hammy, roman etc, we can forget to get things right. We have FB for the very informal "wots dis" request and thats fine for those people, but on the forum we want to make it a bit more special and see ID topics that the finders can look back on with pride. On top of that, good sized quality pics and machine/land/settings info can make a great little story and help us all to share the background excitement. There will be those who don't want to get involved in any of that and thats fine, but please do it on Facebook ::g
You don't have to get things perfect, but you do have to make an attempt, Liam :;@

I am thinking that 99% of us get the requirements now...

Machine
Depth
Settings
Signal
Terraine
Picture (max of 3 per day?)
Scale

But would be good if someone could come up with an easy acronym/way for remembering these

The only acronym that I can think of is

D = depth
I = item
S= scale
P= pictures
A = appreciation
T = terrain
C = coil
H = hopes
E = equipment
S = settings

The HAMMY CODE already covered that Greg ... (how is the body BTW? What happened?)

The ID topics have improved a lot and the real battle is not to enforce the standards but to get people to understand them and appreciate that a little bit more info adds an enormous amount of value to the ID request, Liam ::g

Hi all, we are always pleased to see members finds and share in your excitement. However, please consider the HAMMY code below if you also wish to have a good ID. This top class free service is provided by other forum members and they need as much INFORMATION as possible. Many of us struggle with the technical side of taking pictures and loading them onto a post, so here is just one of the excellent help topic that should make life easier! viewtopic.php?f=120&t=32047
Your special find should be special to us all. Happy hunting, Forum Staff.

H - Have at least two good sized clear photos.
A - Add any info about your detecting day, type of land, depth found etc
M - Measure items by doing the pics next to a scale or ruler.
M - Machine used? settings? always of interest to other users.
Y - You will always get a better ID if you supply more information.

why all the bumps? i think that nearly all of us get the general idea...
Hi oldartefact, as you say most of us will likely get the idea ::g on average though we get 5 to 10 new members joining every day, in the past 7 days we have had 45 new members register who will not be aware.

Cheers

Its probably best to lock this topic and instead of "bumping" it regularly we will unlock it now and then to convey the need for us all to get the right quality info on the ID requests.
Most members have responded well and get the right pics and scale, some brief info on the machine and little snippets describing the find, so a HUGE thanks to those people ::g
ID requests that clearly make no effort at all to give good clear pics and a suitable scale will need to be deleted still. There are plenty of Help topics on the forum to assist in editing photos, so do browse through them, written by forum members who have found easy ways to overcome simple problems.
This is a super example of what is ideally sought after and if you can get even a bit close, then thats great! Liam ::g :;@
