I might have cracked this one

Post by pengles »

Picked up this sorry looking hammy a few days ago in a rotting stubble field. 4" down using Deus fast factory programme. I'm not very good with coin ID normally, despite going through my Spink several times, but think this might be a Henry V111 Groat, maybe struck in the reign of Edward V1. Fingers crossed.

It’s a third coinage groat - possibly a Spink Reference 2369 like the 5th one down in this link http://www.hammeredcoinage.com/henry-viii.html

I’m no expert though :D

Well, what a real nice find! When I read the heading I was thinking that you had a folded hammy and upon unfolding it had cracked it big time. But there you go, I'm with it now.

Well dug! ::g

Thanks for that, see what you mean, but I'm thinking maybe Spink 2403. Good to hear that It's not a regularly seen depiction of the great man.

Please could you give a Spinks number for that? I wouldn’t normally ask but I’m trying to learn :D

I made a rickett earlier. I thought the annulets in cross fork ends was Southwark only. :D

It's third coinage, tower mint - S2369. ::g

For the record I honestly wasn’t questioning your ID though as I’d guessed on the nearest one I thought looked similar 8=ypr
