ID for bronze item please.

Post by rocenante »

Hi all,

Found this odd little item last week in some pretty boggy conditions, that we're not helped by the snow! It was about 4 inches down and I think it may be bronze, that's as much as I know.

It's smooth, sharp, and green. I don't know where to begin to try and identify it.

Any help will be much appreciated.

Looks like a very old patina, am afraid I don't recognize the item though, looks very interesting ::g

It's a very unusual looking item. Do you think it may be some kind of blade/scoop, possibly farming related?

I haven’t a clue what is/was but it’s really nice. Just look at the patina, cracking ::g

Not a clue but would guess at some sort of blade off an early piece of farm machinery. Looking at the 2nd photo the scores in the surface suggest something passing over it which make me think there was a moving blade above and as it passed through a crop it sliced off(a bit like a pair of electric hair clippers).

That's what I was initially thinking but I can't see any means for attachment - it doesn't appear to be broken at any point.

Its the type of metal that's throwing me off that idea as well to be honest, I haven't been able to find anything that looks similar.
