Roman?? Figurine

Post by dep1699 »

Hi,
I have found this today, a friend of mine found the base and he kindly donate it to me. The base is till in the cleaning
Process. It has an iron nail to hold the statue and it was found a couple of meters away from the figurine. I am wondering if it is Roman or of a later date. It is heavy and probably is a lead alloy.
It was found on stubble field using deus hot 29 kHz reactivity 2
Thanks in advance for the info that you can give me.

If it is roman it could be Venus, it's the only naked godness that I found. I hope someone could help me to identify it, this thing is really puzzling me!

It's not something i'd automatically think Roman, but it could be a Roman girl in a beanie hitching a lift of a passing chariot. :D

Not being funny ... but to help the ID it would help to determine male or female. But I cant make out which.

The pic of the base displays four feet to enable 'free standing' (one is bent under) but the base also shows the rusted remains of some other method of fixing? I'd say it's fairly modern rather than the hoped for 'of antiquity'. (I think I've been wrong before though) :D Regards ss47

I think I'm seeing an 18thc acanthus leaf pattern on the base, as well as the remains of a painted finish. Just wondering if this might be an ornate tobacco jar lid handle?

HI Allectus, did you see by chance the pictures of the base? I'm interested to know your opinion.
