A couple of Lead items

Post by TheAndyA » Tue Jun 18, 2019 5:23 pm

The 1st item looks like a Lead token, found around 4 inches deep in a sloping grass field with sandy soil. I was using the Equinox in Field 2 and this gave a reading of 15.

The field is at the back of a house, in a village with a Church built around 1200 AD, so there's a fair bit of history in the area. (If that helps at all?). x;

Edit: I forgot to mention that the reverse is blank.

The next item, I think may be a Lead Stylus? It has a pale cream colour to it. It does resemble a modern Pencil, having fairly flat sides. This also gave a reading of 15, dropping to 13 depending on the direction of the detector. It was approx 5 inches deep in the soil.

I'd be interested to hear opinions on how old either item may be. ::g

Many thanks

First item is probably a lead token or a lead counter - we can argue both or either. This guide is useful to work out some idea of date, although it’s pretty hard to pin them down.

We really need to see the back of the top item, even if it is flat. It reminds me more of a tobacco jar lid handle though. ::g
