Coin Or Not...........

Post by ARCH » Mon Jun 17, 2019 4:43 pm

Afternoon Ladies / Gents
Anyone out there any thoughts on this rather interesting coin like item. It was found on a Roman site amongst Roman coin finds…

So of course I thought it was a coin but I now think not…………………….

However I am stumped now what it is ? It really does look like a coin.

What has killed the coin idea for me, is that it seems to be made in two halves hence the circumference join.( Hem ) well I think it’s a join ?? Maybe it just has not been trimmed off ??

One side has an eerie looking figure and the other has an interesting triangle with a circle around.
It`s made from a metal alloy possibly bronze and its weight is 4g

My best thought so far is a type of locket….??
Thanks in advance

Does look to be a locket or pendant... not a coin theres an attachment on the top of it. Cant quite read writing perhaps something to do with some saint?

Very interesting and yes it would be good if we had a pic or two up close to bring up the lettering? Liam ::g

Ummm, an interesting find but I would suggest it's a bag seal. It could be that although it looks bronze it is made up of a different alloy.

I'll go with the lead seal idea too. It is pretty small so it might be from something other than flax or guano though, perhaps even alcohol! ::g

Religious and brass/bronze to my view, grex under the triangle is flock, the triangle masonic maybe.

I'll guess that it's a religious medallion and the 'KJB' above the figure represents the King James Bible. It looks like it has 'REX' on the other-side. x;

Plus 'IESUS', I think?

I think it looks like a seal too. The type that dangled from a document, not the lead sack ones. But it’s in your hand so maybe it is a locket.

Love the face on one side ::g

the triangle reminds a bit of the pyramid with the eye on the US dollar note.and I would assume its off a king james version of the bible a seal. there is a possibility it could even be masonic and something that looks close to the triangle is the grave monument of Jehovah’s Witness founder Charles Taze Russell so maybe its a seal relating to them
