Jewellery. Is this toot?

Post by Me and my boy » Tue May 21, 2019 1:40 pm

I found this yesterday about 4” deep.
Not thinking it’s anything worth worrying about, but just checking.
The centre glass/ stone fell out when I picked it up.
I’m thinking Victorian toot, but it came right in the middle of a Roman site. I know it’s not Roman!
Any help appreciated.

Cheers Allectus,
Am I right in thinking, unless it’s precious metal and it’s set with stones, it’s toot?

Pretty much so mate. There are some early exceptions though.... glass centre-boss brooches are Roman! ::g

If that's toot then I would be happy to find some. Beats my shrapnel any day!

There are some extremely valuable bits of base metal and paste jewellery. Trouble is a few decades in the ground tend to reduce most of it to toot (or worse)! :D
