Charles 1st farthing I think? Wrong! It's a James 1st ;)

Hi everyone

Popped this out of my usual permission a while back. Looking through spinks I think it's a Charles 1st farthing but a confirmation would be great!

It was a really irony signal at around 2"down and I nearly didn't dig it and it's sooo thin I'm amazed it has survived!

I must say I've found a bit of snobbery regarding my garrett ace250 and OK a better machine might get me more finds but right now it's doing me proud as I think my finds are showing!

Sadly we live in a very materialistic society where what we "own" is judged by some to be to them our status in life. This can be from Job, House, car, down as low as Camera or as you`ve found out "Metal detector".
It`s not a view I hold thank goodness, but again sadly some, but not all, will see a lesser quality or size even as something as not up to their level.
So all you can do is ignore comments and use what you`ve got to the best of your ability. As long as you're happy with it, "sod " (pun)the rest. ::g

Absolutely nothing wrong with the Ace 250. I had some great finds using mine and couldn't fault the machine at the price point. Basically, as everyone keeps saying, if you swing your machine over a good target the 250 has as much chance of finding it as everything else. Only real reason I 'upgraded' was I needed something lighter to swing due to advancing years and shoulder problems. Lovely piece of kit.

That coin isn't too shabby. Normally these coins are toast after years of decay in the ground. ::g
The Ace250 has found some great items and will continue to. You have to swing a coil over it to find it - cracking machine

Hi
Good find. I found a couple myself but nowhere near as good as this! Well done!

As for your detector, I have had the same years ago so you stick with what you are comfortable with and what you know-I think a lot of this hobby is down to luck anyway . Years ago I had an old Whites Classic 3+ and I had constant mickey taking about it until I dug up a gold 13th Century Clergymens ring. Needless to say that shut them up!! Good hunting.

Thank you for the id Allectus, I wasn't too far away!

And thanks for the comments people, I've encountered this type of snobbery quite a bit in the past whilst wearing my musicians hat and came to the same conclusions, a decent musician who knows what they're doing can make a cheap instrument sound as good as a many thousand pounds one.

Hands well up in the air I'm a novice detectorist but I'm getting there and I'm liking the ace250! It's finding me stuff!

I cut my teeth with the Ace 250 and found some great stuff at some depth... and I keep it as a reserve now... in fact I have just advised a friend who is interested in starting out to get one... He asked if I would sell him mine .... "No!"
