First ever saxon I think flo thinks viking update

Post by paint » Tue Aug 13, 2019 8:29 pm

I did slope away from my dig to day a little dejected as no one found anything good so i invited the last two standing to come to one of my other fields which they enjoyed more than the stubble few coins between us nothing of note but i did manage another one off the bucket list i think

Nice find, and if it is Saxon, and it looks like it may be, then it is no more than you deserve ::g

Question away - I get it wrong all the time :D

This one is described as a stirrup strap mount https://finds.org.uk/database/artefacts ... /id/939068

But on this one (and lots more) they are described as tongue shaped open work strap ends https://finds.org.uk/database/artefacts ... /id/943558

Either way it’s saxon and very lovely :-*

You were right Fred if you look closely you can see some beasts on it the flo pointed them out it is quite an important find for the area as there is no evidence of Vikings in this part of Gloucestershire well chuffed ::g also had another item which I thought was rubbish but thought I would take it as I was going anyway he confirmed that was Viking to will post later to see what you all think
Cheers paint
